ABSTRACT
Effect of hydro-pneumatic spraying on the control of woolly whitefly (Aleurothrixus floccosus) (Maskell) and citrus
mealybug (Planococcus citri) using different air flows and application volumes in citrus. Citrus plants are characterized
by having rigid textured leaves and a high foliar density, in addition, low pruning intensity and large canopy size, makes the
effectiveness of pesticide application difficult in the central and high areas of the trees. In this work, three hydropneumatics
sprayers were evaluated to improve control over woolly whitefly and citrus mealybug, using acetamiprid 70% and chlorpyrifos
48% + 1% mineral oil, respectively. The airflow rate and the mix volume rate were adjusted in the equipment. To verify the
effectiveness, both pests were monitored in vegetative structures previously and after 10 and 20 days after the application.
Results indicated that, for both pests, an improvement in control is achieved when the volume of air rate reaches or exceeds
70,000 m3/h, and the forward speed does not exceed 4.5 km/h in the case of whitefly and 3 km/h for citrus mealybug. The
application volumes turned out to be optimal with a ratio between 100 to 130 liters per thousand cubic meters of vegetation.
