RESUMEN

La mandarina ‘Afourer’ es el primer cultivar cítrico patentado introducido al Uruguay. Además de sus excelentes características
organolépticas, uno de sus principales atributos es la ausencia de semillas en aislamiento de polinización cruzada. En Uruguay,
la cobertura con malla anti-abejas permite disminuir al mínimo la presencia de semillas, pero en muchos casos reduce en
forma importante el cuajado de frutos y rendimiento. Con el objetivo de incrementar su productividad en esas condiciones,
en dos plantaciones del departamento de San José (Uruguay, 35 °LS) se aplicaron tratamientos de ácido giberélico (GA3 50
mg L-1) en plena floración, anillado de tronco 30 días post-floración y combinaciones de ellos. El tratamiento de GA3 y anillado
incrementó en forma consistente el número de frutos cosechados y el rendimiento, mientras que los tratamientos individuales
tuvieron respuestas variables. En los experimentos realizados, entre 95 % y 96 % de los frutos no presentaron semillas; el
porcentaje de jugo, los sólidos solubles totales y la acidez no fueron afectados por los tratamientos.

ABSTRACT

Improvement of ‘Afourer’ Mandarin Productivity in Isolation of Cross-Pollination. ‘Afourer’ mandarin is the first patented
citrus cultivar introduced to Uruguay. Besides its excellent organoleptic characteristics, the ability to produce seedless fruit in
the absence of cross-pollination is one of its main attributes. In Uruguay, bee-proof nets covering trees result in reduction of
seed presence, but in some cases fruit set and yield are significantly reduced. With the objective of increasing tree productivity
while avoiding bee’s pollination, treatments of gibberellic acid (GA3 50 mg L-1) at full bloom, trunk girdling 30 days after full
bloom, and their combination, were applied in two orchards located in San José (Uruguay, 35 °SL). GA3 application combined
with girdling consistently increased fruit number and yield per tree, while the individual treatments had varying responses. In
the experiments, 95 % and 96 % of the fruit were seedless; fruit juice content, and juice total soluble solids and acidity were
not modified by the treatments.
